Practice Answering Your Word Problems in 4-parts, Even When Don't Have to: There are word problems on the homework and sample tests, but they don't have the 4-part answer blanks like the quizzes and tests. What's the reason? The reason is I couldn't keep up with the grading if they were all 4-part problems, especially since there are unlimited attempts on the homework and sample tests. In conversations with students, one problem that often comes up is that the student was only focusing on the answer when doing the homework and sample tests. This is understandable with all that goes on in a student's life, there is a tendency to just "get the homework done". However, it shouldn't be surprising that those same students were having problems on the quizzes and tests. The quizzes/tests force you to demonstrate more than just getting the answer. If you are not practicing that ahead of time, you will always have trouble with the assignments that really effect your grade (quizzes and tests). It's hard, but take the extra time to write out on your paper the 4-steps even when MyMathLab just makes you write the answer. Your grade will thank you :)
